Use our Word Work Mats to build phonological awareness skills: spelling CVC word families - use visual cues to spell different CVC words writing CVC words - build fine motor skills by handwriting the CVC word producing rhyme - make a word that rhymes with the CVC word spun manipulating sounds - creating a new CVC word by changing either the initial, medial or final sound of the original word To prepare the Spin and Spell word work game: Print the pages you’d like your students to practice. There are 8 different mats for each vowel sound. A mix of word families are included in each mat for each medial vowel sound. Slide into a page protector or laminate the mats to allow students to build and write on the sheet repeatedly with a dry erase marker. To use, students will: Use a pencil and paper clip to create a spinner. Spin the paper clip to find a CVC word to work with. Build the CVC word match the picture using magnetic letters, playdough or similar. With a dry erase marker, write the word in the space provided. Think of a word that rhymes with the CVC word pictured. Write or build it in the space provided. Using the CVC word pictured, change one of the letters to create a new word.
